Specifying colors for a bar chart up front rather than changing the automatically assigned ones?

Copper Contributor

I am constantly changing the color of individual data points in bar charts, pie charts, etc. because I am interested in reinforcing categories of data by using similar colors, etc.

My question:  Is there some way to assign the color you want associated with a particular data point in a chart BEFORE you build it, so that you don't have to edit it post-creation?

I have read articles about how to assign colors conditionally to data points in charts (for example, https://peltiertech.com/conditional-formatting-of-excel-charts/) but even in these situations it seems you have to accept the initial automatic assignment of a color which you may not like.  I want to avoid having to edit my data points to one at a time following creation.

Any help much appreciated!
