Ive been trying to activate the solver add in on the tools menu but nothing shows up in the window and it doesn't let me browse for it either. Basically I don't have any other options as add ins and I'm not sure what to do, I can't find other way to add the solver and I really need it.

As for excel for mac, my knowledge is, to put it mildly, very limited. But send you this information, it may help you.
Or a Mac specialist will see your post again and may have a solution that can help you:).
Solver on Excel 2011 for Mac
Here are some steps to take to possibly resolve the errors you are seeing. Please try each in order, then check Solver and see if the error(s) remain.
1. Open Excel, click Tool>Add-ins
2. Uncheck the ‘Solver.xlam’ check box
3. Hit ‘Select’ button and navigate to /Applications/Office 11/Office/Add ins/Solver/Solver.xlam> Select the file and hit ok/open.
4. It will give you a prompt saying this Add-in already exists, do you want to replace it.> Say yes.
5. Now on the Excel file try using Solver and see if you still get the same behavior.
If the above steps didn’t help you re-solve the issue, I’ll suggest you apply the latest update for your Office Mac 2011.
To update Office 2011:
Load the Solver Add-in in Excel
Hope I could help you at least a little.
Thank you for your patience and time.

My knowledge is limited when it comes to solvers, but...
A little more information and additional information
such as operating system (win. 10-win.8, win server, etc.)
and Excel version would be beneficial for everyone :).
Thank you for your understanding and patience

nfortunately, I am not familiar with MAC.
The only thing I can offer you are some links from Microsoft for Mac, which might help you further.
Define and solve a problem by using Solver
But first, I recommend Upgrade macOS to continue receiving Microsoft 365 and Office for Mac updates.
