small boxes with 1,2 above worksheet display after header footer was clicked

I accidentally pressed the "insert->header footer" button, now i have 2 small boxes at the top left of my worksheet view, above it., and a large blank area to the right of this.

I can't seem to remove them.  How can I restore the prior view with which only shows the currently selected box contents and location line of data.

@jdlof1976 You're in page layout view, at the botton-right of the Excel window you'll find three small buttons to change the view. This is the default view:

Thanks but that didn't help.

Here is my attempt at visualizing: green is normal, wanted.  red is not normal, unwanted.   I think it has to do with the header or footer setup.    The "normal cell grid view" should be just below the top line of cell, fx, and cell contents display.   (I can't post a picture.)

Sounds as if you grouped some rows maybe?
