Excel is actually not intended to act as the password keeper of our files.

The lock was originally used to protect areas, columns, lines or cells, so that data is not accidentally released when a file is edited together.

In that time it was expanded much more than originally thought, especially with VBA you can do a lot in this direction.

But not one thing! ... everything that can be locked with software, can also be unlocked with software. It's all a question of time and resources.

Yes, there are ways to lock our Excel files, depending on what we want to do.

In this case, I would recommend protecting the VBA Project with a password in advance.

Then I would write code with a time limit that is quick and easy.

You can see an example in the attached file.

Of course there are many other options, such as when the file is opened, an email should be sent.

In the end, you always come across this small and elegant solution that I am sending you back.

I would be happy to know if I could help.
