Running Macros on Excel Online

Copper Contributor

I am trying to run a macro on an excel spreadsheet (online version). I UNDERSTAND I CAN'T CREATE OR EDIT ON ONLINE VERSION, but I should be able to still run them and it is not letting me. I have my onedrive account logged into on the desktop version of excel I am using to edit and create the macros and once I save the file in xlsm (macro enabled) to my onedrive, the macros do not run on my online excel. Any suggestions?

Edit a workbook that contains features unsupported by Excel for the web

can view the workbook, but not the unsupported features

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

No way, VBA is not available for Excel Online.

Do you know why that is? Is this supposed to be possible at some point?

Macros use the Visual Basic for Applications code library. This library is quite large. It is installed together with the desktop version of Office for Windows and Mac.

The online versions of the Office apps cannot use that library - they are intended to run entirely within the browser, without relying on installed code libraries, on all platforms (not only Windows and Mac, but also Linux, Android, iOS/iPadOS).
