"text boxes" that show up in excel

When I highlight to expand consecutive criteria, I get an "insert text" box and have to delete until gone so I can continue to drag the expanded info.  Attached I have dates going across and I want to drag to populate the next 3 days but get the box as shown on the 2nd picture.  Not sure why I get them or how to get rid of them.

This is kind of confusing. You've not gotten any replies in several days....could I suggest that you upload the Excel file (rather than a Word doc) that illustrates the problem you're experiencing. And maybe give a bit of background as well...what's the spreadsheet for? What's the purpose it's serving?

The boxes I am talking about disappear when I try to upload. It’s a calendar I use for menus and many other times it happens too. I try to enter 2 consecutive dates and then drag to the next 3 boxes to self-populate the rest of the dates.
