Problem with Excel: allows me only 3 digits max in the cells

Copper Contributor

Hi everyone,

I'm facing a problem with Excel and it's driving me crazy.. Since yesterday Excel doesn't allow me to have more than 3 digits in each cell. I've checked the data validations and there is no rules so why does the program automatically convert my numbers down to 3 digits, it's really annoying as I cannot see any cause for it.

I put 3 screenshots to show, the first one has the original value (it was saved before Excel started to go sideways) of 3,500.

The second screenshot shows the value I'm trying to put which is 40,000.

Finally on the last screenshot we can see that Excel decided that the value will be 400... Please I need some help!

Click on the Excel menu and select Preferences.

Click Edit, then clear the check box "Display this number of decimal places".

Does that help?

Yes thank you so much for your help, problem is solved. I'm still curious to know why Excel decided all of a sudden to implement this rule.. anyway glad it's fixed.
