Problem hyperlink on a form with Excel

Copper Contributor

I have a problem in Excel

sometime ago i made an Excel file with hyperlinks to another file in OneDrive and it's works.

Recently upgraded that Excel 2016 to Excel 2021 and suddenly hyperlinks stop working.

In detail:

yo insert hyperlink to a cell or a forms from a file from your OneDrive and save it to onedrive.

That local link to a file in local files system  C:\users\myname\onedrive\Documents\myfile.xlsx converts to  https://d.docs.live.net/0e3cdf9c7ddb146b/Documents/myfile.xlsx

In Excel 2016 works but in Excel 2021 if the file it's on a folder shared from other account it doesn't convert right and keeps linking to local file. At this point if this file is shared if someones click the link gets an error.

Someone has the same problem?

It seems that the upgrade from Excel 2016 to Excel 2021 has caused some issues with the hyperlinks to files in OneDrive. To troubleshoot and resolve the problem, you can try the following steps:

  1. Check the file location: Verify that the file you are linking to in OneDrive is in the correct location and accessible to all users who need to access it. Ensure that the file is stored in a shared folder and that the necessary permissions are set.
  2. Update the hyperlink addresses: Open the Excel file with the hyperlinks in Excel 2021. Edit each hyperlink and update the address to the correct URL format for OneDrive. Instead of using the local file system path (C:\users\myname\onedrive\Documents\myfile.xlsx), use the correct OneDrive URL (https://d.docs.live.net/0e3cdf9c7ddb146b/Documents/myfile.xlsx). To ensure the hyperlinks work correctly, you can try the following steps:

Open the Excel file in Excel 2021.

Select the cell or text where you want to insert the hyperlink.

Right-click on the selected cell or text and choose "Hyperlink" from the context menu. Alternatively, you can use the Insert Hyperlink button on the ribbon.

In the "Insert Hyperlink" dialog box, choose "Existing File or Web Page" on the left side.

In the "Address" field, enter the full URL of the file in OneDrive, starting with "https://d.docs.live.net/". For example: https://d.docs.live.net/0e3cdf9c7ddb146b/Documents/myfile.xlsx

Click the "OK" button to create the hyperlink.

Ensure that the URL you enter in the "Address" field is the correct URL to the file in OneDrive. You can copy the URL from the OneDrive web interface by navigating to the file, right-clicking on it, and selecting "Copy link" or a similar option.

By following these steps, you should be able to create hyperlinks in Excel 2021 that correctly link to files stored in OneDrive.

  1. Test the hyperlinks: After updating the hyperlinks, save the Excel file and test the hyperlinks by clicking on them. Ensure that they open the correct files in OneDrive without any errors. If any hyperlinks still do not work as expected, double-check the file location and permissions.
  2. Re-create the hyperlinks if necessary: If the hyperlinks still do not work after updating them, try deleting the existing hyperlinks and recreating them from scratch in Excel 2021. This ensures that the hyperlinks are set up correctly using the new version of Excel.
  3. Check for software updates: Ensure that you have the latest updates and patches installed for Excel 2021. Microsoft often releases updates to address issues and improve compatibility, so keeping your software up to date can help resolve any known issues.
