Power Query Editor Automatic Text Selection When Using Mouse

Copper Contributor

Hi,

I'm looking for help with a frustrating issue I'm having with the Power Query editor on my main work computer.

When using the Power Query editor on my main machine (Windows 11, Office365), if I select code in the advanced editor or formula bar, it automatically selects text outside of my selection. For example, in the following code block:

= Table.RenameColumns(#"Get Metadata Table Schema",{{"Name", "Column Name"}, {"TypeName", "Column Type"}})

If I try to highlight "Name" in the query, it will automatically select ",{{"Name. See the GIF below.

The issue doesn't occur on my laptop or other devices and only affects the Power Query editor. The issue doesn't happen in the Excel formula bar or anywhere else in Excel. I have automatic text selection turned off in Word. This issue also doesn't occur in any other application.

Things I've tried/checked with no result:

  • I'm using a Razer Deathadder mouse, and I've tried it with Razer Synapse loaded and unloaded.
  • A different mouse makes no difference.
  • Re-installing Office didn't help.
  • Switching between Microsoft accounts makes no difference.
  • I've checked every setting I can think of.
  • I've looked for any third-party apps that might be causing this.

My Setup

  • OS Name: Microsoft Windows 11 Pro
  • Windows Version: 10.0.22621 Build 22621
  • Mouse Driver: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\HIDUSB.SYS (10.0.22621.819, 76.00 KB (77,824 bytes), 11/11/2022 6:40 AM)
  • Excel Version: Microsoft® Excel® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2304 Build 16.0.16327.20200) 64-bit
  • Active Excel Add-Ins:- Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Addin- Analysis ToolPak- Analysis ToolPak - VBA- Euro Currency Tools- Microsoft Power Map for Excel- Microsoft Power Pivot for Excel- Solver Add-in- Visual Studio Tools for Office Design-Time Adapter for Excel
  • I was previously using RubberDuck for VBA editing, but I've removed that.

Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.
