Thanks so much for getting back to me! I can open password protected workbooks fine just not add the password protection to others and since working remotely need to be able to create new workbooks with password protection before sharing them. And sorry I still don't understand the IRM issues. is there a step by step process I need to go through from within excel?

The cause can be very diverse, therefore without a inserted file (without sensitive data) to see where the problem may be, it is almost impossible to help in any way.

Without knowing which excel version and which operating system it is, it is usually even more difficult.

Thank you for your time and patience

Solution

@woodgem

Repair an Office application

If an Office application such as Word or Excel isn’t working correctly,

sometimes restarting it will fix the problem.

If that doesn’t work, you can try repairing it.

When you’re done, you might need to restart your computer.
