How do I stop Excel from making unnecessary changes to data when I open a csv file, this is a small sample of a csv file I wish to open (the file is opened just by double clicking on the file in explorer - I want to keep the operation simple and not do any importing of files into Excel
16:17:38,98W,AE0679,00-0174,C-17A ,KHUA,KHOP
16:23:36,98W,AE0569,86-0012,C-5M G,KCEF,KCEF
16:33:39,25E,AE1472,07-7180,C-17A ,ETAR,EGUN
17:05:40,98W,AE080D,99-0167,C-17A ,KPAM,KDOV
and this is what I get when it's opened in Excel
16:17:38 | 98W | AE0679 | 00-0174 | C-17A | KHUA | KHOP |
16:23:36 | 98W | AE0569 | 86-0012 | C-5M G | KCEF | KCEF |
16:33:39 | 25E | AE1472 | Jul-80 | C-17A | ETAR | EGUN |
17:05:40 | 98W | AE080D | 99-0167 | C-17A | KPAM | KDOV |
note that 07-7180 in the csv file has been changed to Jul-80 - if I try to make changes to the formatting I loose the original data
Thanks
Paul
