I've used Office 2008 for several years and recently installed Office 365 for Mac. When adding cells to a formula and subtracting cells, when I click enter it reverts back to zero. How can I get the total of the formula I have entered? Thank you.=SUM(E577+E405+E379+E374+E366+E369+E338+E332+E310+E286+E193+E136)-(E115+E107)

SUM() returns zero if you have texts instead of numbers. Actually SUM() is not required here, if you remove it still zero?

Thank you Sergei, are you saying to remove the SUM and () but leave = before the formula and try it? If so I will try it. Thanks

I removed SUM and () on first set of cells but left -() at the end.

I meant
=E577+E405+E379+E374+E366+E369+E338+E332+E310+E286+E193+E136-E115-E107
But if simply
=E577+E405
still zero?
Perhaps you may provide small sample file?

OK, I tried =E577+E405 and I got the correct sum. When I tried with all the formula with no (), the sum was zero!?? =E577+E405+E379+E374+E366+E369+E338+E332+E310+E286+E193+E136-E115-E107

Sorry, without the sample I can say nothing more. Perhaps it shall be zero? Try to add values one by one to check what is changing.

Good idea, I'll do it one at a time and check where the problem lies. Thanks again and I'll report back in hopes that something may jog a thought!

Many thanks Sergei for your help. I did what you suggested, adding one cell at a time to the formula until I found the culprit. It was a cell that I was using for many years but sold the property last year and when I formatted the 2021 sheet all the expense listings for the property were still listed and some of them, the text extended out past the first column for the numerical input. I thought I read somewhere that text in the cell could throw off the equation. So I put a zero in all the 1st column cells where the text was for this property and then tried to hit enter to get the sum. This time it worked. I now have the formula that I can use for all 12 months this year. You don't know how relieved I am and can't thank you enough for taking the time to help me. Roger Burke
