I am a novice EXCEL user.  In my job I create multiple spreadsheets with action item tracking numbers.  For example, tracking action items beginning in 2021, numbered sequentially  like this:

01-21

02-21

03-21

04-21

I need help formatting this so I don't have to do it manually

Right click, format cell, custom, and in the "Type:" textbox you could enter: 00-00
Then, type 121 in the cell and it should appear as "01-21".

Alternately, you could include the year in the format code: 00-21
Then, type 1 in the cell and it should appear as "01-21". Depending on whether or not you need the year to be part of the actual cell contents and your preference.
Thank you, this is very helpful.
