not equal in IF formula

I can't seem to use a "not equal" symbol (= sign with / through it) in an IF formula.

Excel uses <> for "not equal to". For example:

 

=IF(A1<>B1, "Not Equal", "Equal")

Thanks, I guess I got too fancy using the special not equal symbol.
