i have two sheets of data and l want to look up patient name and service date from one sheet and return billing status from the other sheet.  The customer has more than one service date and vlookup is not helping.

I have a thought or two, but it would help if we could see the actual layouts of your two sheets (plus, presumably, a third where you're seeking to perform the retrieval of the data). Don't post anything with real patient names or other identifiable data, but if you could post a mock-up--on OneDrive or GoogleDrive--that would be most helpful.

A question, while you're doing that: in cases such as you describe, where there are more than one service dates, would you always be wanting the most recent service date in this query we're trying to construct?
