Memory error on excel 2016

I always used to be able to look around in Sage using Excel 2010. I could connect to the ODBC driver and see the tables listed, then choose which columns I wanted and get the data back from Sage. I'm now using Excel 2016 (32 bit) and Sage Line 50 V24. I click get data, choose From ODBC, Choose the Sage 24 driver and it shows me the list of tables. No matter which table I choose (tables with more data in take longer!) it ends with a large error message which starts: Unexpected error: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. I have a file with the full error message in but cannot seem to get it to upload.

Can anyone suggest how I can get it working like it did in 2010?
