I AM INTERESTED IN A LARGE SPREAD SHEET TO LOOK FOR ONE OR MORE SEARCH ARGUEMENTS AND MATCH IT IN A TABLE TO FIND THE CORRESPONDING RESULTANT CODE, OR VALUE TO RETURN TO A CELL OR ARRAY.
EXAMPLE:
SUPPOSE I HAVE A DOWNLOADED BANK TRANSACTIONS FILE AS A SPREADSHEET WITH VARIOUS COLUMNS I WOULD LIKE TO SEARCH THE MEMO OR DESCRIPTION FIELD FOR A SPECIFIC SERVICE OR SET OF SERVICES / PROVIDERS OR NAME OF PROVIDER AND CORRESPONDINGLY PICK UP [ FROM A LOOKUP TABLE] THE SUITABLE [SAY] ACCOUNT CODE CORRESPONDING TO MY ACCOUNTING SYSTEM AND PUT OR TAG IT IN THE SAME ROW IN A NEW COLUMN. LATER I WOULD USE A PIVOT TABLE TO SUMMARISE THESE ACCOUNTS AND CREATE A CORRESPONDING JOURNAL ENTRY FOR MY ACCOUNTING SOFTWARE SUCH AS MYOB.
DO WE HAVE SUCH A FACILITY IN EXCEL.? OTHERWISE DECVELOP IT.
