Is there a way to output specific rows based on dropdown option?

Copper Contributor

I am creating a Training record spreadsheet for my organisation, and I am trying to find out if there is a way to use a dropdown list to specify which row I want to pull data from my main table....

Training Dash.pngTable where I would input dates for training completedTable where I would input dates for training completed

Above Images (apologies for poor quality) are to try and show what I am aiming for visually, I can and will create a blank copy for the purposes of uploading to here if anyone is willing to try and lend me a hand!

(Had to censor out staff names for confidentiality)

The Dropdown on the smaller image includes a list of ALL the staff members I am trying to capture training records for (which is provided by Data Validation from the "Full list of staff" [first image])

The hope is that there is a way to select a name using the dropdown, and then for all of the applicable data to be shown in the row below?

I had previously thought I could just make a table like the one in the first image and then just use the filter function but I would like to find something cleaner/smoother than that if possible, as the intention is for this to be technophobe friendly!!

Why not add a slicer to the table?
Hi Jan,

Is a slicer different to the filter function of normal tables?

Hi Jan,

After a bit of googling this morning, this has been a great solution to my problem!
Thank you for the suggestion!, I've managed to create a slicer that filters by staff name and I have locked it to the cell that should have the dropdown, so it doesn't look too amiss! 😄

@OliverBoardman Thanks. It is helpful for others if you mark my reply as the answer to your question.
