Intervals in cells

Copper Contributor

I am working with a norm table, i.e. I have ranges of raw scores that I want to translate into scaled scores. I have a table in the format 0-7 is equivalent to scaled score 1, 8-11 to 2 and so on, and counted on using some of the lookup formulas. Is there any possibility for Excel to read expressions like 0-7, and 8-11 or do I have to convert 0.7 to 0, 1, 2, 3 and so on in separate cells?

@Aniara625 You may use either LOOKUP or VLOOKUP to do this, if you also create a small table with the brackets for your scaling of norms. In the attached example, scale 1 starts at 0, scale 2 at 8 etc.

If you are the most recent version of Excel, you might even use XLOOKUP.

  1. Many thanks, and of course! Thanks for helping me with this!!!
