Inputing data

Copper Contributor

I inadvertantly did something such that whenever I attempt to enter data in a cell the cell background turns black and I cannot see what I'm typing. How do I get back to "normal"?

Hi @whs15116gmailcom ,

Check your conditional Formatting. You may have a rule that changes the background to black when any data is present in the cell.

Select the cell > Conditional Formatting > Clear Rules... > Clear Rules from Selected Cell

@Bennadeau   Thanks for your help> I tried your suggestion, alas to no avail. I've been doing spreadsheets since they first came out and I've never seen this happen. Went back to an earlier version and it was fine. Lost data was not important. Best regards, Bill

I got to say now I'm curious.

Can you send the old spreadsheet, obviously redact any confidential data. I want to see if it will act the same on my end.

Also, please specify which OS and Excel version you are using.

@whs15116gmailcom interesting indeed. maybe try 'Clear Rules from Entire Sheet'
I assume you can't force the format of the cell fill to be blank or white.
also, when you click on a cell is then entry still shown in the input box?
and can you format the text to white and see the info?
and do you have any macro/VBA in the sheet? is the workbook a .xlsx, .xlsm, or .xlsb?
