Indivisible Fraction

Brass Contributor

Hello everyone, I'd like to get help on writing fractions in excel cells. As we know, anytime fractions are typed, they are reduced to their smallest denominator! Well, I want to retain the fraction with no division, i.e if I type 6/60, I do not want it to reduce to 1/10 or if I use a custom format that it won't just retain the numerator and reduce the denominator, but that it would retain the value or 6/36, 6/60, 6/120... Any helpful suggestions, please? Thanks.

Hi @ituryu,

The only solution I can think of is to format your cell as text. This comes with a huge drawback, you won't be able to use it in any calculation anymore. But if you don't need it to manipulate the fraction after, you're good to go.

If you want 60 in the denominator then set the custom number format to:

# ??/60
