How to remove a Drop Down Box

Copper Contributor

A drop-down box appeared on my Excel Spreadsheet

Inside the box is:  "PRICE (high to low)" then there is an arrow down option that changes it to read "Price low to high).

I can find no way to remove this object from my spreadsheet.

I can not select this box to copy, paste or delete it.  This box is not connected to any cell so deleting the columns or rows does nothing to this box.  I can add rows above it and it just appears below the new rows.  HELP

Could you create a copy of the workbook, remove everything except the dropdown box, then save the copy and attach it to a reply?

Thanks. It is a so-called ActiveX combo box.

Make sure that you see the Developer tab of the ribbon. If not:

  • Select File > Options.
  • Select 'Customize Ribbon' in the navigation pane on the left.
  • Tick the check box Developer in the list of Main Tabs on the right.
  • Click OK.

Activate the Developer tab of the ribbon.

In the Controls group, click to highlight Design Mode.

You can now select the combo box by clicking on it.

Press Delete to remove it.

Don't forget to turn off Design Mode again.

That did it. :)
Thank you.

(Your directions were clear and complete, you made it easy....good job).

Outstanding; I was able to remove the Drop Down Box. After deleting the Drop Down Box, currently unable to remove the outline box in relation to Drop Down Box that was deleted without deleting the number text which I need. Please advise

@AL_USMC

Could you attach a sample workbook demonstrating the problem?

Please refer to attachment; thank you for your help and response.

If you want to keep the number:

  • Make sure that Design Mode is off.
  • Select the number in the text box.
  • Press Ctrl+C to copy it.
  • Click in an empty cell.
  • Press Ctrl+V to paste the number into the cell.
  • Turn on Design Mode.
  • Click on the text box and press Delete to remove it.
  • Finally, turn off Design Mode again.
That was my course of action prior to contacting you; thought maybe there was a Design Mode option or setting change to cut down Ctrl + C / V time regarding text data. Truly appreciate your time and knowledge.
The best, simplest solution. Thanks
