How do you reduce the number of rows and columns in Excel

Copper Contributor

I have an excel file that is too large to move around (the screen freezes consistently)

There is 1048576 rows and columns to XFD

I would like to remove some columns and rows to see if this has an effect.  I have already cleared all the data and formatting from the last cell and this does not chang

You can't remove rows/columns at all, you may only hide them. That won't affect the performance. Did you clear the data by Clear All on empty regions?

Thanks Sergei  - I have cleared them using the Edit-Clear All.

I do have 3 tabs with 16,000 lines on each, so I guess it is just how it is.  Problem is I can't even copy them to put the data in another file as it keeps saying I don't have enough memory.
