Hiding Columns and Rows in Excel - advanced aspects

When Hiding Columns and Rows in Excel I've seen some people leave a breadcrumb trail which allows a quick hide/unhide solution to retrieving unhiding such colours. Essentially a greyed out area along the top of the columns and LHS of the rows highlighting which columns / rows can be hidden / unhidden by clicking on either a 1 or 2 box

It is what you get when you click the Group button on the Data tab of the ribbon
