Help with conditional formatting

Copper Contributor

Hi all,

I'm looking for help with a conditional formatting issue.  I want to shade cells a different colour according to the value selected from a drop-down list (there are four options, so I need a rule that dictates which colour to shade the cell based on the option chosen).  I can't find anything in the online help.  Can anyone here help?

You'll have to create four different rules, one for each drop-down option.

Select the cells that have the drop-down.

  • On the Home tab of the ribbon, select Conditional Formatting > New Rule...
  • Select 'Format only cells that contain'.
  • Leave the first drop-down set to 'Cell Value'.
  • Select 'equal to' from the second drop-down.
  • Enter the first option in the box next to it.
  • Click Format...
  • Activate the Fill tab.
  • Select a color.
  • Click OK, then click OK again.

Repeat the above steps with the second option and a different color.

Same for the third and fourth option.

Thanks!
