grouped pivot table on year

when I grouped a pivot table in Excel it didn't work with dates/year older than 1900-01-01. Is there a way to bypass this restriction?

Use helper columns in your data.

Or use a different spreadsheet software without this restriction.

Another workaround could be to load source into Power Query. It recognizes dates starting form year 100. In Power Query add Year and Month columns (or whichever you need) and load transformed table into the grid as PivotTable.
