Extracting data by date

I have a spreadsheet with daily river flows (Book 2) against dates. I have another spreadsheet with lake quality data (Book 3) by date but the data points are about a week apart.  I want to find the river flow for each date in the lake quality sheet and place that flow in the lake quality sheet so I can then graph river flows against lake quality data.

The attached workbook demonstrates how you can link the two tables together using VLOOKUP. The dates for the Flow data were changed for this purpose,  as non of them matched any of the dates in the other data table. Both tables are in the same sheet, just to make the model easier to oversee. The formulae in the highlighted area find the flow data for each date.

Thanks and that works perfectly.  I guessed VLOOKUP was what I needed but wasn't able to get it to work and I didn't really understand the explanation in Help - a frequent problem!
