External link appears to be there, but can;t be found

Copper Contributor

When opening a file, prompt shows that there is an external link.

When checking >> DATA >> External links you can see the link to the external file.

But when I do a search (CNTRL +F) on .xl it returns with a no found.

How can I find the particular cell that has this reference to the external file?

Hallo Jan Karel,

Dat kan ik helaas niet, is niet toegestaan.
I can't, company policy does not allow me to.

Kind regards/groetjes,

Jay
That is silly, this is the worlds best (and only) tool that is capable of finding where your links are hiding. Get IT to give you permission to DL that little tool.

@Jan Karel Pieterse That may well be, but security is pretty tight within the company. No add ins allowed.

Wow, I do not envy you.

@Jan Karel Pieterse Nor I myself, but this is becoming corporate standard within the larger companies in my part of the woods.....

In the mean time I am still stuck with my problem.....

A link can be in any object which allows a cell reference. Thus:
- Chart elements (there are several chart items which may have a cell ref like the title, the axes titles, data labels, ...)
- Forms controls
- ActiveX controls
- Data Validation
- Conditional formatting
- Hyperlinks
- Range names
- Text box and other shapes
- ...

Best of luck finding them (or send the file to me, I can do the automated look up for you)
