Extending formulas between sheets

I have multiple sheets that I would like to connect with a simple cell=sheet1 type formula. My problem is that when I extend it out the cell spacing is different between the sheets. For example, sheet 1 has a spacing in between the cells I need of 20 and sheet 2 has 12 spaces in between where I need the formula. So when I extend the formulas out they don't reference the correct cell.

I have tried to create multiple cells that have the correct spacing to extend them that way but excel does not recognize the pattern I was trying to make. I really don't want to have to hand enter every reference so if anyone has something that can help I would appreciate it!

you could give the source cells or cell ranges a name (menu "Formulas | Define Name") and then use this names in the other sheets as a reference, instead of using cell adresses.

I have no idea if this makes sense in your scenario, but as there are no screenshots or example file, this would be my first advise.
