I have a column that is a list of diagnosis codes, I am clearly not a programmer just a health care person trying to help my doctors. I am trying to figure out how to identify multiple codes within a column with many codes so I can just use the ones that I need for a report.

Perhaps, you can start with categorizing your data, like which codes belong to a certain category or group. That way you can narrow down or filter your search for whatever code you are looking for. If you need more help on this, share a mockUp of the data, how the report looks like (manually done), mention your excel version that you are using, and an explanation on what you are trying to achieve.
