Excel x axis date spacing

I have a chart based on a sheet where the x axis is date. The Y axis data is not based on regular intervals. Although formatted as date, it does not show proportionally on the x axis.

How do I change the x axis to show as proportional to time/date?

Double-click the x-axis.

Under Axis Options, Axis Type, have you selected 'Date Axis'?
