Excel Record Macro button on Ribbon disabled

Copper Contributor

When my new work laptop had MS Office and Excel (Windows 10 Enterprise) installed, the record and play macro buttons on the Developer ribbon were enabled. I added macros via the Visual Basic editor and ran them daily until a week ago when I noticed the Record, Play, and Visual Basic buttons were no longer enabled on the Ribbon.

I noticed the XLStart folder no longer contained my Personal.xlsb file, and the XLStart folder itself was missing. I added the folder and have tried multiple ways to get the buttons on the ribbon to re-enable. IT has done a repair but not a reinstall.

Any thoughts on what is needed to restore the buttons on the ribbon to enabled?

Maybe with...

Click File -> Options -> Customize Ribbon. Check the developer tools box here.
