Excel online sharing through desktop

Hi

This may sound like a bit of a silly question but If I upload a file to excel online, then I and someone else access the file but use it in the desktop app, will it retain its multi user sharing properties?

The reason I ask is I need the developer tab but I also need other people to make changes to the file at the same time.
