excel list validation

I have different items in a list. 

Johnny

Frank

Steve

etc.

 I want to be able to use a drop down list with these items. However I also want to be able to start typing in the value and have  the list complete it without having to necessarily select the element  off the list with the cursor.

This feature will be added to Excel, but it's currently only available in the Beta channel of Microsoft 365 - see Speed up data entry and validation with AutoComplete for dropdown lists in Excel for Windows 

For the moment, you can use a combo box: see Excel Data Validation Combo Box
