Excel File Open function

Copper Contributor

Looking for some guidance.  Since the latest update, when I try to open a file in Excel I am presented with a list of file arranged by date, Today, Last Month, Earlier this year.  This defeats the Quick Access feature since the list no longer shows all the files in a directory, thus making me go to File Explorer to identify the file and double click to open in Excel.

Is there any way to work around this "feature" and restore the Excel Open File list to a simple directory list function?

Thanks for your advice.

Select File > Options.

Select Save in the navigation pane on the left.

Tick the check box "Don't show the backstage when opening or saving files with keyboard shortcuts".

Click OK.

Use Ctrl+O or click the Open button on the Quick Access Toolbar to open files.

Thanks Hans.  There was no change in the file listing after I followed your guidance, but trying to open a file still showed files by date open rather than a simple listing:

An enhanced feature that is less than useful to me.

Found it!! Right clicking in an empty space of the file list presented a menu with a "Group" item. Selected "None" and the file listing returned to what I am used to seeing!
