As Mr Hans Vogelaar mentioned: Welcome to your Excel discussion space!
Here is a general guide on how to do it. However, this may or may not be your ideas and your software versions (Excel, operating system, storage medium, etc.). So it can work, but it can also not work.
To change multiple cells when you select a value from a drop-down list in Excel, you can use a combination of data validation and conditional formatting.
Here is how you can do it:
- Create a drop-down list: Select the cells where you want the drop-down list to appear. Go to the "Data" tab, click on "Data Validation," and choose "List" as the validation criteria. Specify the source of the list (e.g., a range of cells or a named range) that contains the values you want to appear in the drop-down list. Click "OK" to create the drop-down list.
- Set up conditional formatting: Select the cells that you want to change based on the selected value from the drop-down list. Go to the "Home" tab, click on "Conditional Formatting," and choose "New Rule." In the New Formatting Rule dialog box, select "Format only cells that contain" and choose "Specific Text" from the drop-down list. Enter the value that corresponds to the drop-down list selection. Then, specify the formatting options (e.g., font color, background color) that you want to apply to the selected cells. Click "OK" to apply the conditional formatting rule.
- Repeat step 2 for each value in the drop-down list: Follow the same process for each value in the drop-down list, creating a separate conditional formatting rule for each value. Specify the formatting options for each rule based on your requirements.
- Test the drop-down list: Now, when you select a value from the drop-down list, the corresponding cells will be formatted according to the conditional formatting rules you set up.
By using data validation and conditional formatting together, you can change the formatting of multiple cells based on the selected value from a drop-down list in Excel.
