Example - #REF! error causes find in the link
The #REF! error shows when a formula refers to a cell that’s not valid . This happens most often when cells that were referenced by formulas get deleted, or pasted over.

Thank you, however my question was not about #REF error. My question: Is compatibility mode in excel can be turned off by default @NikolinoDE ?

If not, as mentioned above, please provide more information.
1.Click on "File".
2.Then on "Options"
3.Under the menu item "Save" should be the basic setting of the format
for Excel "Excel Workbook (*.xlsx)" and
for PowerPoint must be set to "PowerPoint Presentation".
If not, use the drop-down box to search for and select the correct format.
Then scroll down and confirm with OK
4.Confirm the message with "Yes".
