Excel Auto Format

Copper Contributor

I am using excel to create an inventory of items at my job. I want some items grouped together so I use a simple "outside border" to show they are grouped together. When I attempt to put information in the cell below, for which I do not want a border, it will automatically add a border since the cell above has a border. I have spent all day looking up "auto format" or "auto fill" or "auto correct" and have not been able to find out how to get it to stop adding borders. It also did this with highlight. I wanted to highlight some cells yellow and leave some un-highlighted but it always automatically highlighted the cell below yellow. Please help :(
