Excel 2016 Sum Function

Copper Contributor

I an using Excel 2016 on Win 10 Plaltform.

I am having problems with adding Cells in Two Columns ( H34 +G54) to another Cell.

Both Cells are Formatted as Number.

Using either (=H34+G54) or =SUM(H34,G54) or =SUM(H34:G54) all return Zero (0.00)

I cannot identify the cause of this.

Can someone shed some light on what I might be doing wrong.

@Nasho23 , most probably you have texts in your cells, even if number format is applied. You may check from any empty cell by =ISTEXT(H34)

Despite using SUM, which ignores text, your formula still returns 0. Such presupposes that both H34 and G54 are read as texts! To convert them to numbers, try this formula:
=SUM(—H34,—G54)
I haven’t tested the formula because I’m replying to you via my mobile phone. Thus, please allow me to emphasize that double negatives precede each argument of SUM.
