Editing a CSV file in Excel but Changes are lost when Saved Back to CSV

Copper Contributor

Hi,

I have a CSV file where I need to make all letters lowercase.  I make the changes in the CSV and save but when I go back into the file they are lost.  I tried beginning with an Excel workbook and importing the CSV data into the Excel workbook.  I then save it as a CSV but again when I open up the file, the changes are lost and the file looks like the original CSV file I started with

From your description, my guess--and that's what it is--is that you actually are reopening the original CSV file.

Two suggestions:

  1. Open the  CSV and save it as an Excel file. Then edit it. Then save it again, still as an Excel file. (That way you can always reopen the edited Excel, not losing any work you've done.)
  2. Then save it again as CSV but either give it a different name OR make sure you're saving it to a different folder than the original (or both).
