Drop-Down List + IF function

Copper Contributor

Is it possible to have a drop-down list of cities that once chosen, the sales tax use in % will populate in a separate cell and that cell will multiply to another cell (subtotal) to create a grand total based on the cities chosen on the drop-down list.

Many thanks!

Is it possible?

Yes. Just create a table of city names and associated taxes. Use the city name as the basis for the drop down. I've attached a simple example.

This works, thank you so much!
You are welcome! Glad it worked for you.
Would it possible to add one entry that is free form? Like adding a city other than what's on the list and inserting whatever city tax % they have, if needed. Many thanks!

It makes more sense to increase the table. Part of the idea of a table and the associated data validation aspect of the drop down is the greater assurance of data integrity. For the sake of a reliable spreadsheet, you don't want users to be able to make random entries.

See the attached.

I agree, thank you for your continued assistance!
