Don't show the decimal point

I'm hoping someone has seen this before. I am trying to get rid of the decimal point or any trailing zeroes when they are not needed. I need the grades in my spreadsheet to go out to six decimal places, but I need it to not show trailing zeroes, or if the number is whole, don't show the decimal point.

How do I get it to show like this:

97.98688

100

97

96.345343

and not this

97.450000

100.

97.

Does that make sense?

without making things complicated can't you just format the cell as "General" rather than as a number with six decimal places, no trailing zeros and no decimal point unless needed.
