Date format

Can some body help me with suggestions to change date format

I want the date as say      02-Mar-21

I select a cell and go to format menu in Excel and select the format 14-Mar-21

Now when I type 03-04-2021, It should display 03-Apr-21,  But it keep on displaying the date as 04-Mar-21. Why excel is not accepting the changed

It doesn't matter how do you format the cell, that only affects how to show the date. When you enter it Excel recognize it in accordance to locale date setting for Windows (or on which platform you are).
