Date format issue

Copper Contributor

I have a simple worksheet and I am trying to format a column for the date.  If I enter 061019 I want it to format as 06/10/2019.  I have tried the format cell option but it is not formatting correctly.  When I choose the date format I want, nothing shows in "sample" and when I type a date in the cell and hit tab, it defaults to 01/27/1967.

What am I doing wrong??

You must know that Excel stores dates as numbers. 01/01/1900 is stored as 1, 01/02/1900 as 2, and so forth.
To enter 06/10/2019, you may enter 06/10 only and Excel adds the current year 2019 for you.

You are a genius :)

Thank you so much.  I never knew this.
