Date en general notation

Copper Contributor
Hi all,

Who can help me? I have a set with data and the dates are formatted general and they are displayed as 01/01/2020, 01/02/2020, 01/03/2020. Now I would like to add the new date ‘01/04/2020’ in general format. So, I don’t want it to be formatted as a date!
Whenever I click enter it changes to a date format and when I change it back to a general format, I changes into a number....
Who can help me so the date is stated in a general format and like 01/04/2020?

Thank you 🙏🏼

Date and time in Excel are actual numbers where 1 is equal to Jan 01, 1900 and time is decimal part of the number. You may show such numbers as dates by applying to them date and or time format. In General format they will be shown as numbers.

Most probably what you see as dates in General format actually are texts which present the dates. Not the dates themselves. For the texts format doesn't matter.
