I'm new to excel and can't get numbers to show in the dollar amount.  It just keeps showing as a number and then it wont let me do a formula to subtract one cell from another.

That makes me think the values are seen as text values by Excel. You can try the following:

• Select such values in one column.
• On the Data tab of the ribbon, click Text to Columns, then click Finish without changing any settings.
• If that helps, repeat for other columns if necessary.
