Creating a formula

I have a list of different values for the letters A-Z....I am looking to reference this list so when I type one of the letters it fills in the number associated with it.

I hope that makes sense.

For example:

The list is in A2:B27 and the formula in E2 is =VLOOKUP(E1,A2:B27,2,FALSE)
