I have a number of cells which are filled with easy to use characters (only one per cell). However, there are some cells which have 2 or 3 characters in the cell value (example: M/w).
I would like to have a totals row which counts each character in the specified range which is easy to do with the count.if formula. But the cells with the M/w values are not taken into account in this. I wanted to use the find special formula, but haven't found a way to integrate this into a formula with covers a complete range and counts as the find special searches in 1 specific cell.
Any help on a solution for this?

=COUNT(SEARCH("M",B4:G4))
