Consolidate Excel Windows

Copper Contributor

Does anyone know if there is a way to consolidate excel windows that are open into one instance/window? I am using Excel 2016 on Windows 2010 now and my previous versions opened all of my Excel files under one window instead of separate instances of Excel. To put it another way, it was sort of like opening multiple tabs in your web browser but you only still have one instance of the browser open. It is very frustrating they are all separate instances now because now I cannot do a Save All or Close All. I have to save and close each individual instance that is open. I do not want to merge any of these files into one file, that is not what I mean and that seems to be all of the solutions that I can find.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA, Mike

@MFaith Starting with Excel 2013, each workbook opens in its own application window. There is still only one instance of Excel running in the background.

It is not possible to go back to the old situation in which all workbooks opened in one application window.
