@unicaterry55 , when you start with one column Excel suggests you to expand the selection on entire range
However, in your case you have lot of merged cells and such sorting won't work on entire range
In such case it's only sort by sections selecting every block between merged cells.
In general it's better to avoid merged cells at all and use Center across selection formatting.
